ASCAP Grow A Show

Joining the ranks of Los Angeles and New York, Lincoln, Nebraska, and the Lied Center hosted the third biennial ASCAP/Grow A Show New Musical Theatre Workshop on Sept. 11-14, 2017. The workshop featured new musical theatre works with the potential to be developed and produced into full-scale productions. The Lied Center accepted submissions from playwrights and composers across the country.

“The Lied Center is honored to be one of only three locations nationwide to host an ASCAP New Musical Theatre Workshop,” said Bill Stephan, Executive Director of the Lied Center. “As a direct result of this event, Lincoln is gaining a reputation among the musical theatre community as a safe and friendly place for artists to take risks and develop their new work before they take it to the Broadway stage.”

The Lied Center and ASCAP called upon world-renowned Broadway industry experts to serve as workshop panelists. Returning panelists include the co-creator of “Ice Age” and regular panelist for the Los Angeles ASCAP New Musicals Workshop, Kevin Bannerman, and actress, singer and Broadway legend Karen Morrow. Stephen Bray, best known as the composer and lyricist for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “The Color Purple” and for his many collaborations with Madonna, joined Bannerman and Morrow, lending his expertise to the selected emerging writers.
