Borodin’s Nocturne for string orchestra exudes beauty and emotional intensity. The string orchestra continues with Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony (String Quartet No. 8), which highlights the political unrest of 20th-century Russia. The full orchestra finishes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor (Pathétique), exemplifying the spirit of classical romanticism.
