Arts Across Nebraska

Arts Across Nebraska connects Lied Center artists to Nebraska communities throughout the state. We provide up to three tours every year at an affordable rate to presenting partners. The Lied is responsible for contracting with the artists, routing, and providing technical assistance. Each tour stop includes public performances, student matinees, and educational outreach. More information about our 26th season can be found below.

UNL Opera’s O’ Pioneers!

UNL Opera presents Tyler Goodrich White’s O Pioneers! based on Willa Cather’s 1913 novel--her first masterpiece and one of the most compelling tales of the Great Plains.  Presented in connection with the 2023 Cather Sesquicentennial, the production features student and alumni singers of UNL Opera, the UNL Chamber Singers, and a sextet of live musicians.  Conducted by the composer, with stage direction by William Shomos.   

O Pioneers! is being sponsored by the James C. and Rhonda Seacrest Tour Nebraska Opera Fund, with additional support from the Glenn Korff School of Music, Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, Lied Center for Performing Arts, UNL Friends of Opera, and the Ariel Bybee Visiting Professorship Endowed Fund.

Mariachi Zapata, an Omaha-based mariachi group, has been delighting audiences since 1989. The group features a wide range of traditional instrumentation and focuses on presenting high quality performances of this 500-year-old music tradition, while keeping Mexican and Chicano culture alive. In addition to their entertaining performances, the group is committed to educational outreach work and connecting with students using their original curriculum on instrumental instruction, music appreciation, and history. Mariachi Zapata has been nominated for four Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards, winning Best World Music in 2018.

Jazzy Ash

Join us for an intimate and festive evening with Jazzy Ash and jazz pianist Doug Carter, celebrating the great traditions of New Orleans Jazz and the vast canon of music that came before it. Jazzy Ash and her charismatic group, The Leaping Lizards, have performed at prestigious venues like Lincoln Center, the Getty Center, and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Their music has been featured by the Los Angeles Times and National Public Radio.
