The Great Migration: Jacob Lawrence & Spencer Williams

LOCATION: The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center

The Ross Media Arts Center and The Lied Center for Performing Arts will host a free film event on October 1^st at 5:00 p.m. in partnership with the Lied’s October 3^rd performance of Step Afrika! The Migration. The screening will feature three short films that examine and contextualize Jacob Lawrence's Migration Series and the films of Spencer Williams, a prominent actor/director during the 1930s-40s, whose movies offered hope and a new beginning for an audience affected by the Great Migration. There will be a pre-screening talk and post-screening conversation with Dr. Kwakiutl Dreher, UNL Associate Professor of English and Film.
