Deb Nelson

President, Friends of Lied

This marks the 36th season for Friends of Lied. Our mission is to support and promote the Lied Center for Performing Arts through educational experiences, fund-raising, service, and social activities. And what support it has been! As of the end of our fiscal year 2025, Friends of Lied has donated over $10 million to the Lied Center for Performing Arts to support programming and education.

Friends of Lied raises money primarily through annual memberships starting at the $50 level and our annual themed gala, which has become a “must do” event in Lincoln.

Board members of Friends of Lied host many social events through the year to thank FOL members for their support and to spread the word on the benefits of being a Friends of Lied member.

To quote Robert L. Lynch, President Emeritus of Americans for the Arts “The arts give a voice to the voiceless. The arts help transform American communities... [resulting in] a better child, a better town, a better nation and certainly a better world". We cannot take the arts for granted, now more than ever.

If you are a current or past member of Friends of Lied, we sincerely thank you. Nebraska is incredibly fortunate to have the Lied Center not just for performances, but to educate, inspire and entertain people of all ages and all walks of life throughout the state. Each amazing season at the Lied, has something for everyone.

I encourage you to be a Friends of Lied member to show your support for the arts in your community. If supporting the arts is your passion, we are looking for members to serve on the board of directors. It’s a great way to meet others as passionate as you.
