The Sunset Limited by Cormac McCarthy

A man brings a failed suicide victim from a subway platform to his Harlem apartment, “and the world is set before us with fever-dream clarity.”

The atheist and the saved Christian. The professor and the laborer. The rescuer and the one who did not wish to be rescued. Cormac McCarthy chose to name them Black and White, as indeed they are.

Preparing to present 2006's SUNSET LIMITED twenty years later, the racial dynamics seemed simplistic and in need of subversion. After all, a show that presents universal debates and philosophical arguments is more gray than anything. Same words, same characters, more nuance, more gray.
